Since first working with Aboriginal artists in 1981 Coo-ee Gallery has curated and organised more than 300 Indigenous art exhibitions in Australia and overseas involving individual Aboriginal artists and community groups. These have included the landmark touring exhibition New Tracks Old Land (USA and Australia 1992-96) and exhibitions in Lyon, Lusanne, Paris, Zurich, New York, Portland, Boston and Seattle, Santa Fe and Vancouver.

The company offers a range of specialist services including curatorial and investment advice, valuations of individual artworks and collections for insurance, superannuation and legal purposes, and exhibition services.

The gallery, situated at the iconic destination of Bondi Beach, specialises in both primary and secondary market Aboriginal art. This includes historically important bark paintings, artefacts, and early desert boards as well as high quality contemporary Aboriginal paintings, sculpture and limited edition fine art prints. Over the past 30 years the gallery has acted as the Australian and the Sydney representative for a number of important artists several of whom have now sadly passed away. These have included Queenie McKenzie, Jimmy Nerrimah, Abie Jangala, David Malangi, Karen Casey, Arone Meeks and Dennis Nona. It continues to act as the exclusive NSW representative of, Kathleen Petyarre, Abie Loy, Kathleen, Poly and Angelina Ngarl, and the Spinifex Artists of the Great Victoria Desert in Western Australia.

Coo-ee Aboriginal Art was a foundation member of the Australian Indigenous Art Trade Association (ART.TRADE) an organisation devoted to the ethical trade in Indigenous arts. This organisation works to protect the rights of artists and Aboriginal art communities whilst encouraging industry best practice. Adrian Newstead served as the association’s National President from 1998-2004.

Executive Director Adrian Newstead and Head of Art, Kerry Williams, source artworks personally from Aboriginal communities throughout Australia. The consistently high quality and variety of works in the gallery reflects a depth of knowledge born of a combined 50 years in the industry along with an involvement and relationship with communities stretching back 25 years.

Adrian and Kerry also offer valuation and appraisal services for collectors as well as undertaking specialist consultancies involving Aboriginal paintings, art and culture within Australia. They work closely with all major peak arts bodies including the Australia Council for the Arts, all state arts ministries, ANKAAA (the Association of Northern and Kimberley Aboriginal Artists), Desart (representing desert art communities), the National Association for the Visual Arts and VISCOPY, Australia’s national copyright collection agency.
