At Agathon we take pride in introducing you to some of the best Australian Aboriginal art now available. If you are just entering the field as a collector and needing assistance our experienced staff will advise you on all aspects of purchase. We will also help you plan the development of your collection. For experienced collectors we will ensure that every effort is taken to find the right work for you.
As you may know Agathon is the home of Tommy Watson, one of Australia’s most distinguished Aboriginal artists whose work hangs beside 7 other major artists at the Musee de Quay Branly in Paris. We work exclusively with Tommy and represent the artists of his very remote community of Irrunytju and others which are situated near the tri-state border of Western Australia, Northern Territory and South Australia where Tommy now lives.
Irrunytju Arts is one of the country’s most prestigious art centres. Many of our artists are represented in major state and institutional collections.
Our policy as a gallery is to assist our artists in their professional endeavors in whatever ways we can. We take pride in giving them 60% of the sale of all their works. To further assist them and their family and friends, we are in the process of developing a number of community initiatives including improving the health, food, accommodation and general well being of the artists. Since coming on board we have improved the women’s painting areas, added a new painting area for men, renovated the aged care facility (installing air conditioning for both men’s and women’s areas) and are looking into putting in place initiatives that will make the community more economically sustainable.
I look forward to joining you on the exciting journey you will take in expanding your knowledge and collection of Aboriginal art.
