A descendant of the Wakka Wakka people located in Queensland , David Williams was brought up with his culture in the suburban surroundings of Rockhampton , Queensland .
Learning traditional songs from his grandmother that was taught to her by her grandfather, David experienced first hand language and music from an early age.
His musical interest was then born and his love of didgeridoo would come later on in life.
Growing up in Rockhampton David would always have a music surrounding him as his father and brother were both cornet players. Wanting to be different, David took a keen eye to the trombone not knowing that this would assist him in his learning of the didgeridoo.
While David was attending university, he decided to pick up a brush with the encouragement of his uncle. (an established Aboriginal Artist based in Sydney )
His natural artistic skills saw his development as an artist rapidly grow to the point many people were interested in sharing his art adding it to their collection be it at home or in the office.
Throughout his university years, David would often skip classes to come home and paint. This would see his stock library grow bigger and bigger so that he would be ready to have his first exhibition in 2003.
David had his first solo exhibition in 2004 and would go on to have his first overseas exhibition in Sweden that year. David now has his works hung in private collections in Italy , Spain , England and Germany .
Also an accomplished didgeridoo player, David has performed with the likes of James Morrison and for John Travolta. His performances has taken him to Beijing and San Francisco performing for official Qantas functions. As well has Shanghai with Austrade in October 2006.
Through David's didgeridoo performances and traditional dot style paintings, he strives to educate others about his people and his culture, hoping that one day there is a better understanding across the mainstream population of Australia .
