Durrmu Arts, the Peppimenarti community art program, is renowned for its fine, contemporary art production, including acrylic painting and fibre work. Senior artist Regina Wilson (winner, General Painting, Telstra National Indigenous Art Award 2003) leads a team of talented emerging and established artists including Kevin Gilbert, Linda Gilbert, Mabel Jimarin, Kathleen Korda, Margaret Kundu, Teresa Lemon, Rosina Tirak, Annunciata Wilson and Anne-Carmel Wilson.

The paintings of peppimenarti are based upon traditional weaving and durrmu (body painting dot) designs. These are complemented by the women artists’ premium pandanus and sand-palm fibre weaving work.

Durrmu arts has collectively developed a distinct artistic voice within the indigenous art world, whilst encouraging and sustaining the individual expression of its artists.

Peppimenarti is located 250km south west of Darwin, NT, and was founded in 1973 as a permanent settlement for the Ngangikurrunggurr people. ‘Peppi’ translates as rock and ‘menarti’ as large, referring to the sacred rock formation that overlooks the community. Since its establishment, Peppimenarti has been viewed as a success story on the Daly River and beyond.
