Striking new talent emerges from renowned artistic Family
Joy Kngwarreye Jones is the youngest painter to emerge from a renowned family of artists including her sister Lily Sandover Kngwarreye, brother Freddy Kngwarreye Jones and auntie Emily Kame Kngwarreye.
The source of inspiration for her work is derived from her knowledge of Awely or women's business which are the ceremonies and imagery associated with women's social structure and ritual knowledge. Senior Women decorate their upper bodies in ochre paint for these ceremonies and it is these designs which provide the stimulus for Joy's paintings.
