Coo-ee Aboriginal Art presents Form and Function, Bondi Beach Australia

Form and Function
A collection of fine 18th and 19th century Ethnographic Objects and Bark Paintings. Items that took thousands of years to perfect, are elevated, in the hands of the 'collector', from mere curio to beautiful examples of 'primitive' art and sculpture. Fine Aboriginal, tools, weapons, utilitarian and ceremonial objects, made, and used for their original purpose, not for sale, handled with care for a century or longer can feel like silk to the touch and exhibit a lustrous glow that seems to emanate from deep within.

Designs engraved on to the surfaces of these objects and painted in fine cross hatching on bark paintings may be rendered with such consummate skill and fine detail as to utterly defy their 'primitive' connotation. Their magical power is the original source of, and became the primary influence on, the fine art movements that are contemporary Western Desert, Arnhem Land and Kimberley Aboriginal art today.

This exhibition includes a number of pieces that have been in the Coo-ee Aboriginal Art collection for some time. To these have been added fine examples from a number of regions throughout Australia. It signals our commitment to actively search out fine ethnographic pieces to offer to our clients on a regular basis.

The exhibition Form and Function is now showing, continuing until 15 November 2008.
